Set Design for NAFA
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
ABOUT
Our goal for this project was to design and implement a fashion runway for the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art's Grad Fashion Week. At the grad fashion week, NAFA's graduating class from the Fashion Design school presented their clothing line which they worked on for a whole semester.

THE BRIEF
Our group was chosen to design and implement this set for NAFA's grad week. The brief was to design a runway and adjacent seating which would hold 400 people. This project was especially unique because of tight spatial and budget constraints. NAFA's main motive was to give the graduating class a chance to show off their hard work and feel a sense of pride to see their designs being worn on a runway and we were excited to help in this effort!

Concept: "Behind the scenes"
We wanted to celebrate the transition of a young student into a budding designer. We often see the end result of a design but we don't see the process and hard work that goes into the final product. Through our design, we wanted to show the effort that students put into their designs.

Using a translucent screen, we wanted the audience to "have a sneak peek into the backstage" quite literally where the audience gets to see the process and effort taken to make every design functional and aesthetic.
We achieved this by getting creative with the lighting and materials. Using a combination of a translucent vinyl backdrop and backlighting, we managed to get a silhouette of the movement happening backstage so the audience could truly get a look "behind the scenes".
